Repair Car Shop Tips

Tip 1
Dont choose a shop simply because its location is convenient.  Youre just gambling and you may be a big loser. The National Automotive Parts Association (NAPA) recommends that you find a reputable repair shop before you need repairs.  You can make better decisions when you are not rushed or needing repairs immediately.

Tip 2
The second thing, when it comes to repair services, is doing some research. Do not go for the first car repair shop you run into. Ask around. Get as much information as possible on popular service auto shops close by. Ask your friends and see which ones they have visited. There has to be at least one auto center with a good resume, work history and fair prices.

You can also check with your local Better Business Bureau or Department of Consumer Affairs to see if there have been complaints against a repair shop youre considering.  You may also inquire if an independently owned and operated shop is affiliated with NAPA. To be certified as a NAPA Auto Care Center, the shop must have gained a reputation for service quality in its community

Tip 3
Before your auto center starts to work on your vehicle make sure that you have a valid contract with them that is signed with an exact price quote for the work to be performed. The auto repair shops technician will need to examine your car and tell you what needs to be done and put it all down on paper. It shouldn’t happen that you come to pick up your car and your bill is two times more than expected.

Its easy to become intimidated when communicating with a car repair shop and youre hearing a lot of words and concepts you dont understand.  A hallmark of a good facility is the ability to communicate to you what is wrong with your vehicle and what your options are for fixing the problem.  Dont be afraid to ask questions until youre sure you understand to your satisfaction everything that will be repaired and what it will cost.

Tip 4
Always be prepared to have a backup vehicle available. Since you are probably using your car for everyday needs, being without your only source of transportation for a period longer than planned can be quite stressful. Any service-oriented auto repairs shop will always be willing to provide a loaner car for you to use while your vehicle is being repaired.

Tip 5
Inspect the work that has been completed by your service auto mechanic. If Tip 1 applies to you, then you will surely be able to do it yourself. If not, then it would be advisable to take a family member or friend who knows his way around cars. Together you can inspect auto repair services your mechanic has completed.
